Free Stuff for Business Owners

Here is a collection of free software, services, and anything else I run across that would be useful to business owners (and did I mention it’s all free?)

This list is worth thousands of dollars (hint: that means you want to renew your subscription to this web site at least this month, next month, and the month after that)

Bonus Books

THINK AND GROW RICH by Napoleon Hill
Think and Grow Rich has been called the “Granddaddy of All Motivational Literature.” Napoleon Hill spent “a fortune and the better part of a lifetime of effort” to produce the “Law of Success” philosophy that forms the basis of his books and that is so powerfully summarized in this one.

THE SCIENCE OF GETTING RICH by Wallace D. Wattles
If you watched The Secret and wondered what the little book was that changed author Rhonda Byrne’s life, this is it.

AS A MAN THINKETH by James Allen

In As a Man Thinketh, James Allen reveals how our thoughts determine reality. Whether or not we are conscious of it, our underlying beliefs shape our character, our health and appearance, our circumstances, and our destinies. This principle, which others have called the “Law of Attraction,” was clearly and convincingly stated for the first time in As a Man Thinketh.

THE ART OF MONEY GETTING by P.T. Barnum
Legendary American showman, writer, and famed organizer of “The Greatest Show on Earth” reveals his amazing and creative secrets to wealth and business building.

ACRES OF DIAMONDS by Russell H. Conwell

One need not look elsewhere for opportunity, achievement, or fortune — the resources to achieve all good things are present in your own community. Acres of Diamonds originated as a speech which Russell H. Conwell, American Baptist minister, lawyer, writer, and outstanding orator, delivered over 6,000 times around the world.

SPEEDWEALTH by T. Harv Eker

Would you like to earn a lot of money? Would you like to earn a lot of money . . . Quickly? If so, you are in the right place. T. Harv Eker is about to introduce you to a dynamic new business system that will allow you to create wealth faster than you may have ever dreamed possible.

BOOK OF SUCCESS QUOTES collected by Zig Ziglar
Zig Ziglar, the world’s foremost motivational and inspirational speaker, has often been asked what his favorite quote is. In response he came up with an entire book of them.

Free Software and Services

Open Office: This free suite of office programs is Sun Microsystem’s answer to Microsoft Office. You’ll find programs that do the exact same thing as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc… and they’re all compatible with MS Office so you can create a file in Open Office and someone using MS Office can open it.

“Why would Sun Microsystems create something like this only to give it away?” I asked a friend of mine when he introduced me to Open Office. He answered “Because Sun Microsystems really hates Microsoft.”

Fair enough.

Google Docs: Free web-based word processor and spreadsheet which you can use to share and collaborate with others online.

Google Analytics: While we’re talking about Google, here’s their web analytics package I talk about in the “Web Site Tune Up” section of this site.

Google Web Site Optimizer: Split testing software to help you optimize your site (tutorial on this soon…)

Gimp: It’s hard to guess what Gimp is by it’s name alone, but it’s the free equivalent of Photoshop.

Audacity: A free audio editing program.

WordPress/Blogger: Free blogging programs. All the tutorials on this web site are organized using WordPress.

Sugar CRM: A free content resource management system (for keeping track of a lot of information). If you don’t know what a CRM is, you probably don’t need it.

Jing: Camtasia’s kid brother. Jing can take screen shots and capture video of your computer screen. Camtasia and Jing are both made by TechSmith. I’ve heard you can get a free version of Camtasia 3 and upgrade to the most recent version for much less, but I haven’t looked into it.

NVU: This is a program that helps you design web sites, much like Dreamweaver or FrontPage.

PrimoPDF/doPDF: Create PDF’s out of Word documents and other programs for free.

Windows Movie Maker/iMovie: Simple video editing software. No links for these because, depending on whether you have a PC or a Mac, you should already have these on your computer (just wanted to make sure you knew they were there).

AVG: This anti-virus program saved my computer from a virus that was sending people email through my computer (see a screen shot–particularly interesting is the email described in screen shot 2). Norton and McAfee couldn’t find this bug, but a program called Ewido did, and AVG acquired Ewido a little while back.

AdAware/Spybot: Great programs to help you find and delete ads and spyware from your computer. Sometimes your computer functions noticeably faster after that stuff is off.

ZoneAlarm: A free firewall (helps protect/hide your computer from bad guys).

Free Conferencing: This is the conference call service I use for my coaching calls. It’s got a load of great features.

DimDim: A free webinar service.

MailChimp: A free email service (for the first 500 subscribers).

Did I miss anything? I’m sure I did. Please suggest anything else that belong on this page!
