A simple tip to increase your email signup rate

Are you trying to build an email list by writing articles on your blog?

How is that working out for you so far?

Chances are you’re getting a 3%~5% signup rate.

That’s just plain awful, considering how much time you put into writing blog posts. Especially considering that even a cruddy squeeze page will get a 7%+ signup rate.

People are supposed to join your email list because your informative blog post establishes you as an expert and a great resource. Right? Instead, when people are done reading your post they simply leave your site.

If you’d like to change that, here’s a simple thing you can do to improve this situation.

How to end your article for maximum signups

The major problem with every article or blog post I’ve read is that it comes to an end.

What I mean by that is that it ends with a closing paragraph that basically tells me there’s nothing more the author has to say. The article is over.

So what I recommend you do is when you end a blog post, you don’t really end it. Use what I call the “next step” paragraph. You tell people what the next step is, or in other words the things they still need to do that you haven’t covered in that particular blog post.

Instead of ending with “…and that’s how you start a profitable email list. Please comment below or let me know if you have any questions.”

Try ending with “Of course this is just the beginning to creating an effective email list. The fun stuff is yet to come! In the future we’ll cover things like how to come up with plenty of attention-getting topics to write about, how to get people to eagerly open your emails and click on your offers, and many strategies on how to build a large and targeted email list that will make you money. I’ll be sending these things out by email, so if you aren’t on my email list yet then you can join below. Thank you for reading and I’ll see you in the next tutorial!”

And then you have your email sign-up form right there at the end of the post.

That last part is important. I’ll repeat it.

And then you have your email sign-up form right there at the end of the post.

Don’t have your sign-up form at the top of the page or in the sidebar where people might glance at it as they’re reading the information they came to your site for (at least don’t have them ONLY in those places).

Since you’ve mentioned several other items of interest that people commonly have questions on, this is the point your visitors are pretty much at the height of their interest in getting more information from you.

And you just told them the answer to those questions is to join your email list. And the sign-up form is right there in front of them.

Special bonus to using this strategy

Not only is this a good way to get people to join your email list, but you don’t have to write an ebook or create some fancy video to get people to join. Those things can take a lot of time to put together.

Not only that, but a single short, informative blog post with some promises of future related information will actually do much better than a big fancy ebook at collecting real email addresses.

If people are expecting future information from you, they’ll give you a good email address. if they just want a one-time ebook or video, you’re much more likely to get their junk email address (you know you’ve done this yourself–or at the very least you’ve grabbed the ebook and then immediately unsubscribed).

What I hope you got from this…

I hope this simple idea will give you an immediate boost on your signup rate the first time you use it. I also hope what you found here was an alternative to writing a long ebook or creating some fancy video series to entice people to sign up.

Building an email list or starting a blog is time consuming enough as it is. Hopefully this simple strategy can get things off the ground for you much faster.

The next step…

There are many more simple, yet powerful ways to make your blog an email-list-building machine. We still need to answer questions such as…

  • How should I lay out my blog (and blog post) for increased signup rates?
  • What are the best things to offer visitors to get them to sign up?
  • What items on my page scare people away vs. increase signup rates?

Join my email list so I can send you these and other effective strategies to increase your email sign-up rates, lead conversions, and website sales!

Give it a shot and we’ll see if I can get you fast results like I have for many other business owners!
